Human remains identified as those of missing man

PIKEVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Police say human remains found in the woods in eastern Kentucky are those of a man who was reported missing more than nine months ago.

Kentucky State Police said in a statement that the medical examiner’s office determined on Monday that the remains belong to 37-year-old William Scott Fannin.

Family members reported Fannin missing in December 2015. He was last seen on Dec. 10 near his home in the Milo community of Martin County. Police have said they suspect foul play in his death.

The police statement says additional testing is being done to try to determine a cause of death.
