HPD: Henderson man charged for domestic assault and drug possession

A Henderson man is behind bars facing drug possession and assault charges after police responded to a domestic disturbance on Fair Street Tuesday night.

Henderson Police responded to the 500 block of Fair Street around 11:20 p.m. Tuesday where they found 39 year old Demario Haygan pinned down by three men who reportedly witnessed him assault a female. Police say the female had been hit several times, choked and pinned to the ground by Haygan.

During a search of the Henderson man following his arrest, police reportedly found suspected marijuana in his pocket. After he was transported to the Henderson County Jail, he was searched again and police say they foundĀ  a pill bottle containing Oxycodone, Clonazepam and Alprazolam.

Haygan was booked into the jail and charged with Possession of Controlled Substance 1st Degree 1st Offense (Drug Unspecified), Possession of Controlled Substance 3rd Degree, Assault 4th Degree Minor Injury (Domestic Violence), and Possession of Marijuana. Police indicate Haygan was also served a Bench Warrant for Failure to Appear.
