Henderson Christmas Parade canceled for 2020

HENDERSON, Ky. - Out of safety concerns for volunteers, participants and spectators alike, the Henderson Merchants' Annual Invitational Christmas Parade will not take place this year.
The parade, hosted by the Henderson Shrine Club and supported by local donors, typically takes place the first Saturday in December in downtown Henderson. The difficult decision to not schedule the parade was made as Henderson County has seen a recent surge in COVID-19 cases.
Parade Chairman and Shrine Club member Ethan Evans said the decision was made by his organization after surveying volunteers who work on parade day as well as participants who prepare floats and other types of entries. It was determined that many were not comfortable participating because of this year's health emergency.
He said the Club has instead started looking forward to 2021.
Meanwhile, the Henderson Breakfast Lions Club, which hosts the Christmas in the Park display in Central Park in collaboration with the City of Henderson, is working on a plan to put that exhibit in place for the holiday season. The Breakfast Lions is also organizing "Zoom Visits with Santa" to take place 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 5. Watch for details on how to participate.
