HCSO: Henderson man trapped in single-vehicle wreck sent to hospital

Authorities say they believe alcohol was a factor in a single-vehicle wreck this morning that sent a Henderson resident to the hospital.

The Henderson County Sheriff’s Office reports deputies and emergency personnel responded to the intersection of US 41-A and Posey Chapel Road around 4:30 a.m. Monday in reference to a single-vehicle accident with injuries and entrapment.

After arriving on the scene, deputies say they learned 34 year old Terri Smith, of Henderson, was driving a Ford pickup truck north on US 41-A when the vehicle exited the right side of the roadway and hit an embankment causing the truck to flip-over onto its top, entrapping the driver. According to authorities, the Jaws of Life was used to extricate Smith from the vehicle.

During further investigation, deputies reportedly located empty bottles of alcohol and drug paraphernalia inside Smith’s vehicle. Deputies say they suspect that Smith was driving under the influence, which they believe to be a factor in the accident.

Smith, who police say was wearing a seatbelt, was transported by ambulance to Methodist Hospital in Henderson County for treatment of minor injuries.
