HCC Entering Summer and Fall 2021 with Enhanced Flexibility

Henderson, KY – Faculty and staff at Henderson Community College (HCC) are gearing up to welcome all students to campus for the summer and fall 2021 semesters. For some students, it will be their first opportunity to attend classes on a college campus, meet other students in-person and work directly with faculty and staff.

Like other colleges and universities nationwide, HCC quickly transitioned to a “remote work and learn” environment during the Spring 2020 semester. The Summer 2020 session continued online, and college officials worked to approach the 2020-21 academic year in a creative and responsible way, while offering students a variety of course modalities. State, federal, and local guidelines provided the framework for the College’s #HealthyAtHCC initiatives.

As #HealthyAtHCC measures were put into place and the institution adapted to new pandemic guidelines, the College was able to provide a good mix of online, face-to-face, and hybrid course offerings during the Fall 2020 semester.

By Spring 2021, HCC was able to make moderate increases in face-to-face offerings, while remaining flexible in the event of a spike in COVID-19 cases.

“I’ve been impressed by the creativity of our faculty, staff, and students,” said President/CEO Jason Warren. “We’ve never closed. Rather, we have pivoted as needed to keep everyone safe. Going forward, we’re going to offer plenty of face-to-face options while remaining flexible as needed.”

Warren notes new technology and equipment such as Cisco Jabber phones, Microsoft Teams, and other instructional devices will continue to benefit students long-term. HCC already heavily utilized Blackboard as the campus learning management system (LMS) to facilitate online/hybrid classes and web-enhanced in-person sections. New tools have allowed for remote customer support services, enhanced online tutoring, and virtual meetings.

HCC will continue practicing sanitizing and other hygiene methods employed during the pandemic, such as distancing, hand washing and all other CDC protocols.

HCC is enrolling now for the summer sessions and the fall semester. According to college officials, the number of face-to-face offerings were increased for the Fall 2021 semester. Hybrid and online options remain as well. Students will find available sections to meet individual needs.
