Henderson, KY – Henderson Community College (HCC) is proud to announce its 2020 nursing cohort achieved a 100% pass rate on the National Council Licensure Examination—Registered Nurse, more commonly known as the NCLEX-RN.
HCC Nursing Program Director Dr. Lori Donahoo said many nursing schools were worried the COVID-19 pandemic and its disruption would result in a dramatic reduction in pass rates.
But that wasn’t the case for HCC.
“HCC is very proud of the hard work and dedication of students, faculty and staff,” Donahoo said. “Their determination has paid off!”
The mean national pass rate of U.S. educated graduates on their first attempt of the exam over the last three years has ranged from 87.1 – 88.3%, according to Donahoo.
NCLEX-RN is a test that measures a graduate’s competency. Graduates from schools of nursing across the United States and Canada must pass the exam, proving readiness to enter the workforce as a Registered Nurse.
The most recent results are still unofficial until confirmed by the Kentucky Board of Nursing at the conclusion of the year, Donahoo said.
HCC President and CEO Dr. Jason Warren said the 2020 results are a credit to the program and school. “I am so proud of our faculty who prepared these students and the staff who have supported them along the way. This is just one of the ways we can demonstrate quality.”
These results add to a lengthy history of high performance in the HCC nursing department. The department’s cohort also achieved a 100% pass rate in 2016. In 2019, it was 92%.
Warren added that “a recent Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education (CPE) analysis predicts healthcare jobs to increase 12% over the next decade, expanding at nearly twice the average rate for all other jobs across the state.”
In addition to nursing, HCC offers many other healthcare programs mentioned in the CPE report such as medical assisting, medical lab technology, and health science technology.
