Funeral services set for Morganfield teen killed on Highway 2091

Funeral services have been scheduled for a local teenager hit and killed Wednesday night while riding his bicycle.

Services for 17 year old Damon Collins of Morganfield will be held Monday morning at 11:00 at Whitsell Funeral Home in Morganfield with visitation scheduled Sunday afternoon from 1:00 until 6:00 and after 9:00 Monday morning. He will be laid to rest in Cedar Grove Cemetery in Webster County.

Collins died Wednesday night when he was riding his bicycle on Highway 2091 in the Whispering Meadows area and state police say he was hit by a car driven by 22 year old Steven Freeman Jr. of Morganfield. Collins was airlifted from the scene to an Evansville hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Freeman was taken into custody by the Union County Sheriff’s Office and charged with murder, aggravated DUI and driving on a suspended driver’s license. He remains lodged in the Union County Jail.

Earlier today, KY 2091 was closed for an hour between the US 60 Morganfield Bypass and North Village Road to allow a crash reconstruction investigation to be conducted by Kentucky State Police and the local sheriff’s office, according to Kentucky Transportation Cabinet spokesman Keith Todd.
