Fort Knox soldiers planning to deploy to Afghanistan

FORT KNOX, Ky. (AP) — A deployment ceremony is planned for about 100 Fort Knox soldiers who are being sent to Afghanistan.

A statement from the central Kentucky Army post says the ceremony is planned on Thursday for soldiers with the 42nd Clearance Company, which is a unit of the 19th Engineer Battalion.

The unit’s mission while deployed will be to assist friendly forces by overseeing and conducting route reconnaissance, minesweeping operations, and minefield clearance operations.

The soldiers are expected to be in Afghanistan for nine months.
