FORT KNOX, Ky. (AP) — The hospital at Fort Knox is transitioning into an acute-care clinic.

Ireland Army Community Hospital Commander Col. Bob Cornes told The News-Enterprise (http://bit.ly/29U3leV) that the facility will make the switch on Sept. 1. A public meeting to discuss the changes is planned on Monday at American Legion Post 113 in Elizabethtown.

Ireland closed inpatient services last month and has its last surgery scheduled for July 22. The emergency room will stay open through Aug. 31.

Cornes said the clinic will be open daily from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and offer about 60 appointments per day, which is about the number of patients seen in the ER.

The facility will be renamed Ireland Army Community Health Clinic. Cornes said the impact to area hospitals is expected to be small.
