GLASGOW, Ky. (AP) — Dentist and former Barren County magistrate Christopher Steward has been indicted in a prescription fraud case.
Media outlets report Steward was indicted Wednesday by a federal grand jury on five charges related to fraudulently dispensing controlled substances.
Court documents say that between February 2013 and April 2015, Steward acquired controlled substances by misrepresentation, fraud, deception and subterfuge.
The indictment says Steward conspired with two different people by writing prescriptions for several drugs, including hydrocodone. Identified in the indictments as “S.K.” and “J.K.,” those two people allegedly filled the prescriptions and gave the pills to Steward.
Steward is also accused of obtaining drugs through other people — identified as “A.J.,” ”D.J.” and “S.K.2” — through similar methods.
If convicted, Steward faces 2 to 20 years in jail and fines between $250,000 and $1 million.
Steward couldn’t be reached for comment.
