Formation of Morganfield Industrial Park Oversight Committee Underway

Union County First Director of Community Development Garrick Thompson is trying to form a new committee in order to speed up the process for new business prospects looking to locate within the county.

Thompson tells WMSK News they have learned the past couple of years that there are inefficiencies that the City and County could do better when it comes to new businesses locating here. He notes the Union County Development Authority Board has funding for economic development, but it does not own the land in the Morganfield Industrial Park, which is why they are creating the Morganfield Industrial Park Oversight Committee.

He says for new businesses…it’s all about timing.

According to Thompson, he feels the formation of the new committee will help meet the expectational level of a new company, industry or business wanting to locate in Union County or Morganfield.

He believes once they have all of the kinks worked out and the committees formed it will make the process easier, smoother and really streamline things for new businesses.

Thompson tells WMSK News they do have an interested prospect taking a hard look at the Uniontown Industrial Park and another prospect interested in the Morganfield Industrial Park, but he does not want to release any information or details at this time.

The Union County Fiscal Court received the inter-local agreement for the Morganfield Industrial Park Oversight Committee during the meeting last week, but tabled action making any appointments until all magistrates had a chance to review and study the agreement.
