LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) — A former high-ranking Kentucky official who will soon begin serving prison time for bribery must also pay a $5,000 fine after settling 45 counts of ethics violations with the Executive Branch Ethics Commission.
The commission said in a news release Monday that Tim Longmeyer has reached a settlement with the commission under which he agreed to pay $208,500 in civil penalties for using his influence as head of Kentucky’s Personnel Cabinet to steer contracts to a public relations firm.
The fine is being largely offset by $203,500 in restitution he agreed to pay U.S. District Court as part of his 70-month federal prison sentence.
Longmeyer was sentenced in September for orchestrating the kickback scheme. He is scheduled to begin serving the sentence Jan. 5.
