Clay County man indicted for murder, fetal homicide

MANCHESTER, Ky. (AP) — A Clay County man faces several charges after police say he shot and killed his pregnant girlfriend.

Media outlets report that a Clay County grand jury has indicted 52-year-old Sam Cornett for murder, attempted murder, burglary, wanton endangerment and fetal homicide following an April 30 shooting.

State police previously said Cornett’s girlfriend, 35-year-old Alisha Tye, ran from her home to a neighbor’s home to get away from Cornett. However, Cornett went to that home and forced his way inside. Police say that once inside, Cornett fired several shots at Tye.

Tye was taken to the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center where she died Sunday.

It wasn’t immediately clear if Cornett has an attorney.
