Blasting at I-69/KY 56 Sebree Interchange starting TODAY

NEWS RELEASE

A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans to occasionally halt traffic at the Interstate 69/KY 56 Sebree Interchange in WEBSTER County starting TODAY.

Weather permitting, there will be a halt of traffic on I-69 and KY 56 at the Sebree interchange at 2:00 p.m., CDT, TODAY.

The contractor is altering the slope along the I-69 northbound exit ramp to KY 56 to correct persistent landslides along the embankment between the ramp and northbound lanes of I-69.  This corrective work will involve blasting to loosen rock to allow improvement of the embankment slope and drainage system.

Starting TODAY, the contractor plans to occasionally halt traffic on both I-69 and KY 56 for about 10 to 15 minutes at a time to allow blasting at the site.  The contractor anticipates blasting about every other day at this location when weather permits.  Kentucky State Police and KSP Division of Vehicle Enforcement Officers will assist with rolling road blocks to slow and stopping traffic when use of explosives is required.

This process of blasting about every other day is expected to continue for about 2 to 3 weeks as weather permits.

Motorists should be alert for slowing and stopped traffic along both I-69 and KY 56 near the Sebree-Owensboro interchange.
