Bevin extends public comment period on Medicaid proposal

FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) — Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin is giving people more time to comment on his proposal to change the state’s Medicaid program.

A notice posted near the bottom of the website devoted to the proposal says the comment period has been extended until 5 p.m. Friday. But Health and Family Services Cabinet spokeswoman Jean West says the deadline is actually Sunday.

The original comment period closed on July 22. But the notice says the Department of Medicaid Services extended the deadline “in response to the volume of comments that were submitted on the final day of the comment period,” including after the 5 p.m. deadline.

West said officials decided to extend the comment period last week, but did not send out a news release. West said notices are scheduled to be published in local newspapers on Thursday.
