April 2016 Unemployment Rate Fell in Union, Crittenden & Henderson Counties

Unemployment rates fell in 83 Kentucky counties, including Crittenden, Henderson and Union, between April 2015 and April 2016, rose in 33 counties, including Webster, and remained the same in four counties, according to the Office of Employment and Training.

The unemployment rate in Crittenden County for April 2016 was 4.9 percent, down from 5.1 percent in April 2015.

In Henderson County the jobless rate was 4.3 percent for April 2016, a slight drop from 4.4 percent in April of last year.

In Union County the unemployment rate was 6.2 percent in April 2016, down from 6.5 percent recorded in April 2015. The 6.2 percent April 2016 jobless rate for Union County was also a significant drop from the 7.8 percent unemployment rate in March of this year.

In Webster County the April 2016 jobless rate was 5.1 percent, a slight increase from the April 2015 unemployment rate of 5.0 percent.

State officials indicate Magoffin County continues to record the state’s highest unemployment rate in April 2016 at 15.8 percent, while Woodford County recorded the lowest jobless rate in the Commonwealth at 2.9 percent.

According to state officials, the unemployment rate from April 2015 to April 2016 remained the same in the counties of Breathitt, Mason, Metcalfe and Owen.

Unemployment statistics are based on estimates and are compiled to measure trends rather than actually to count people working. They do not include unemployed Kentuckians who have not looked for employment within the past four weeks.
