A contractor plans to restrict northbound traffic to one lane on the US 41 Twin Bridges during daylight hours starting today, Monday, February 13th 2017.

This northbound lane restriction is expected to be in place 9 a.m., CST, to about 5 p.m., through about Wednesday, to allow guardrail upgrades along the bridge approaches. Starting Monday morning all northbound traffic will move to the right-hand or driving lane. This work zone lane restriction will be on the Henderson end of the northbound bridge to allow work along the median guardrail. This initial round of work is expected to be limited to the bridge approach.

Northbound motorists should be prepared to encounter slowing and merging traffic as they approach the Audubon Park entrance along US 41 near the 18 mile marker. Again, all traffic will initially move to the right-hand or driving lane on Monday.

Commuters should consider allowing extra travel time. Appropriate caution is required where equipment, flaggers, and other personnel are along the roadway in close proximity to traffic flow.

Another contractor is planning to start upgrades on the Henderson end of the southbound bridge approaches in coming weeks. Much of this work to prepare for a coming deck overlay on the southbound bridge can be completed without lane restrictions.

These projects on the US 41 Twin Bridges that have to be completed before the start of a major rehab planned along the US 41 Corridor. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) and Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT) are planning a major 3-year rehabilitation project along the US 41 Corridor between the US 41 Twin Bridges and the I-69 Interchange at the south edge of Evansville starting in May of 2017. This joint project includes a deck overlay driving surface on the southbound bridge. For more information go to: http://www.in.gov/indot/3459.htm
