5 dead in apartment fire in northern Kentucky, mayor says

MAYSVILLE, Ky. (AP) — The mayor of a small town in northern Kentucky says two adults and three children have been killed in a fire at a set of apartment buildings.

Maysville Mayor David Cartmell says he received a call about 2:30 a.m. Tuesday and that when he arrived at the scene, the buildings already were engulfed.

Cartmell says the apartments were in five brick row houses with three stories each in an older section of town.

Cartmell says the coroner told him that a mother and three children died at the scene and another person was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Cartmell hasn’t identified those killed. He says the cause of the fire is not yet known.
