2 local men arrested during routine traffic stop and charged for possessing drugs

A routine traffic stop led to the arrest of two local men for meth and other charges.

The Henderson County Sheriff’s Office says deputies conducted the traffic stop on Highway 425 around 2:00 this (Friday) morning on a vehicle driven by 48 year old Kevin Smith of Henderson and his passenger, 54 year old Douglas Keith Burke of Waverly.

Both men were taken into custody after police reportedly conducted a search of the vehicle and found methamphetamine, marijuana and drug paraphernalia inside.

Both men were charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance 1st Degree 1st Offense (Methamphetamine), Possession of Marijuana, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. In addition, Smith was charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle Under the Influence of Alcohol/Drugs 1st Offense and Speeding 18 MPH over limit, and Burke was charged with Tampering with Physical Evidence.

Both subjects were booked into the Henderson County Detention Center.
