17-year-old passenger dies in four-wheeler crash

LONDON, Ky. (AP) — The Laurel County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a 17-year-old girl died from injuries suffered in a crash involving a four-wheeler.

A statement from Sheriff John Root says the crash occurred on Monday south of London when the vehicle, which was being driven by a 17-year-old male, failed to negotiate a curve, and then went over a 15 foot embankment, struck a tree and overturned into a creek.

Police said the male driver and the female passenger were thrown from the vehicle. The female was later pronounced dead at St. Joseph Hospital in London. The driver was being examined for possible injuries.

The sheriff’s office said it will not release the names of those involved due to their age.
